MONKEY
Monkeys playing in the jungle,
swinging from vine to vine.
Slobbering on each banana -
and leaving the veggies behind.

PUPPIES
Puppies playing in the dog park,
getting muddy with their friends.
They bring their dirt to our picnic lunch-
and slobber on all our food.

WHY WE NEED POETRY
"Let me start with this: We need poetry. We really do. Poetry promotes literacy, builds community, and fosters emotional resilience. It can cross boundaries that little else can."

Sunny
The sun comes
like a mole out of his hole.
The sun is high
like the mole reaching up.
Like the mole afraid of his shadow
the sun goes behind a cloud.

RAIN
Rain from a cloud comes hard
like the shell of a turtle.
Laying on the beach
listening to the rain on his shell.
The rain goes when
the sun comes out
and the turtle swims away.

SHARKS
Sharks like to swim real fast at the bottom of the ocean,
Eating their prey of fish and seals.
Watch out you don't get too close,
or you might become their dinner.

LIONS
Lions like to stalk their prey,
when looking for zebras to attack.
After dinner lions roar and roar,
while thinking about a gazelle snack.
